For a first timer who had never been to an equestrian event
before, I am glad to say that I had a great time!

I began my journey to the National Horse Show which was held
at the Selangor Turf Club, which is situated in Sungei Besi,
Kuala Lumpur. A shuttle service was provided from the station to
the car park to the carnival which reduced the hassle of having to
take a taxi. At the carnival, I lost count of how many people
wandered from one end of the carnival to the other. That proved
how many people showed interest in horses, both local tourists
as well as foreigners!
If you missed the Horse Carnival....
As I entered the carnival
grounds, the first thing I noticed
were the refreshment trucks—
from Kenny Roger’s Roasters
all the way to Starbucks!! I
guess they knew how much
people couldn’t live without
their Starbucks coffee. A few
spectators’ tents stood some
feet away from the equestrian
area for those who were
interested in observing the
equestrian events which
consisted of horse acrobatics,
a mini prix competition and
leaving the best for last—the
horse archery performance.
If one were to get bored watching the events, they could walk
around the carnival like I did, as there were on-going activities
from 10am-6pm. The food bazaar was one of them. A variety of
food was sold at the bazaar ranging from your conventional
burgers and nuggets to the traditional Nyonya kuih (cakes) and
keropok lekor (fish crackers). They also had cupcakes that were
exact replicas of the DC cupcakes and from the looks of it; they
tasted just as good as they appeared!
There were also games stalls that featured some of the rather well-
known games like guitar hero, dance central and the latest
newcomer, angry birds. Hearing the screams from the children told
me they were enjoying themselves beyond the point of normalcy
and when the children are happy, you know you’re doing an
excellent job. On the whole, whether from a foreign country or
Malaysia itself, I for one know that my trip to the 1 Malaysia National
Horse Show was not a regrettable one!!!

Besides that, a farriery competition was conducted whereby you
get to see the best of the best horseshoe makers battle it out to
produce the perfect horseshoe. The horse breed display was also
nearby which exhibited a number of horses, each of different breed
and country. them home but some of the horses were extremely
tall it made my mission almost impossible!
Like any carnival, pony rides were also available and that too was a
hit with not only the children but the adults too—rushing to take
their turns on the cutest of ponies.
However, the best part of the trip wasn’t the food or the games but
the carriage ride that hundreds of people were lining up for.
Although the ride was short, I got to see many fascinating scenes
that made the carnival worth visiting—the race track, the inflatable
games and rock climbing, and the Trojan horse which exposed
the history of the Trojan War.
