It is only fitting to have a Padi Museum in the
'Rice Bowl' of Malaysia, which is the state of
Kedah. Surrounded by rice fields, Kedah is
the number one rice producer in the country.

The Padi Museum is in the town of Gunung
Keriang, 8km from Alor Star. It was opened in
October 2004 with the main objective to
exhibit materials and items used in the
cultivation of padi. Covering an area of
12,000 sq. meters, the museum has three
levels, which includes a souvenir shop and an
observation deck. Besides historical items,
the Padi Museum also has the latest
technology in growing padi.

Inside the museum is a cave. The spiral
staircase leads up to the observation deck.
Here you will find a revolving platform with an
artist view of the countryside. It gives the
visitor a 360 degree snapshot of how rice is
grown in Malaysia. Various types of T-shirts,
handicraft and souvenirs are sold in the
souvenir shop, including a variety of
traditional snacks called the 'Kedah biscuit',
