Port Dickson - a great beach outing just a hour from Kuala Lumpur
Cool off at the
Jeram Toi Waterfalls
The town of Port Dickson is about an hour's drive from
Kuala Lumpur. Make a trip to Port Dickson and enjoy
visiting the marinas, swimming at the beach, or just dining
at the outdoor restaurants watching the sunset. You will
find some exciting hotels in Port Dickson.
In the state capital, Seremban, you can see the
Minangkabau architecture which dates back to the 17th
century.  40km east of Seremban is the royal state capital
of Sri Menanti, where the 100 year-old Istana Lama Sri
Menanti (the old palace) now houses a weapons museum,
costumes and a bridal chamber.  In the town of Port
Dickson on the coast, enjoy the beaches and the fresh
sea food.
Runner tapping in Malaysia
On one of your trips outside the city, catch a glimpse of
'rubber tapping', an age old art of extracting the sap out
of the rubber tree. Rubber is one of the top exports of
Malaysia.
The 'Wau' pronounced 'wow' is a large
colorful Malaysian kite. With a wing
span of up to 2.5 meters and heights
exceeding 3.5 meters, it is definitely a
sight to see in the sky, hence the
chosen logo of the country's leading
airlines, Malaysian Airlines.

Wau making is another great ancient
art form usually passed down from father
to son. The frame is made from bamboo
and it is covered with shiny glazed
paper, floral cut-outs, designs and bright
paper tassels. A bow
shaped device is added to the kite to
give it a distinct high pitched
humming sound when in flight.

The Wau is usually flown at festivals
and competitions especially in the
northern states of Kelantan and
Terengganu.
Henna body painting is
an ancient art form in
Malaysia. The Henna dye
comes from the leaves of
the henna plant which are
dried and crushed to form
a powder. The powder is
then made into a paste
which is applied to the body.
When dry, the temporary
tattoo turns the skin into a
reddish brown tint.

You can have these
temporary Henna tattoos
done on different parts of
your body. The hands and
feet are the most popular
especially with intricate
designs. In Malaysia, the
Henna tattoo is used at
weddings and festivals.
Dance is popular in
any culture and the
Indian dance is very
rich in tradition.

For many centuries
the Indian dance
was attached to
temples and their
themes were
mythological in
nature. Nowadays
the Indian dance
has taken on a life
of its own with some
popular moves in
the mix. If you have
a chance, the Indian
dance with its
colorful attire and
limber moves is an
entertaining show.
