The ruins of Kellie's Castle and the film location of Anna and the King movie

The ruins of Kellie’s Castle is about a 30 minute drive from
Ipoh. The castle was never completed by the original owner,
Englishmen and rubber tycoon William Kellie, due to his
untimely death. The 19th-century ruins remain dark and
mysterious with much speculation among locals and visitors
about hidden rooms and secret tunnels. Its allure and romance
led these ruins to be chosen as one of the set locations for the
filming of "Anna and the King" in the mid 1990's.

Kuala Kangsar is a well preserved, old Royal Town in the state of
Perak. Stop at the Istana Kenangan (Istana means palace),
home to the Royal Museum of Perak. Construction of the palace
began in 1926 and it was completed five years later. Shaped like
a sword, the entire palace was built without a blueprint and not a
single nail was used. The walls are made of woven sliced bamboo
and patterned in diamond motifs called "kelarai".

We arrive to many smiles and the sound of
drums. Ahhh.....I will miss all the welcome
celebrations. We are ushered to the boat deck
to take the catamaran to the Orang Utan
Island. But stop...what do I see in front of me??
A lizard?? Yikes !!!
