General Manager
No trip to Sarawak is complete without a visit to the Sarawak Cultural Village You knew that sentence was coming!

I read the above quote in the blue 'passport'
that was handed out to me when I walked
through the gates of the Sarawak Cultural
Village. "A fun place to be, with friendly people
and everything works".
Now, that works for me too, an interactive
cultural experience.
The passport describes this 'Living Museum' as
a 17 1/2 acre sprawling expanse at the foothills
of the legendary Mount Santubong, fronting the
South China Sea. What a perfect spot. I am
thrilled to be here.
As I make my way to the restaurant which is just
inside the gates, I am greeted by Jane Lian
Labang, the General Manager of the Sarawak
Cultural Village. Just the person I wanted to
meet. Wow! What a personality! Very friendly
and so filled with passion for the Sarawak
Cultural Village.
Jane says: Culture and traditions come from
nature. Keeping culture and traditions alive is
respecting nature, in a way. This 'Living
Museum' respects nature and provides a space
for culture to continue. In an age of virtual
communication, there needs to be a place
where our culture can stay alive, keeping with it
all the traditions for us to appreciate. It is
important to know our culture. For sometime
during our lifetime, we will ask ourselves this
question. "Who am I and why am I here"? With
the Sarawak Cultural Village, we can go back to
our roots and identify ourselves. It is then we
know that we are not lost. It is also then we
remember the words of our parents regarding
our heritage. "I remember my father told me
about......."

Some of the most spectacular dives in Malaysia are off the island of Sipadan located off the east coast of Sabah. Praised by renowned diver and film maker Jacques Cousteau as one of the best diving spots in the world, Sipadan island is an oceanic island on a limestone pinnacle, abundant with marine life.
