Waking up in Penang and my first thought is
walking the beach. I skip breakfast and rush over
there only to find my media friends have beat me
to it .......they have been there a while .........
working on a darker tan.
We will be leaving shortly, heading south, back to
Kuala Lumpur. This is the last day of the MIMH
2006. Although the day is not over and there is
still much to see and do, there is a sense of
sadness; this tour is coming to an end.
'Load em up', last stop Bukit Merah Lake cruise
and Orang Utan Island.
We arrive to many smiles and the sound of
drums. Ahhh.....I will miss all the welcome
celebrations. We are ushered to the boat deck to
take the catamaran to the Orang Utan Island. But
stop...what do I see in front of me?? A lizard??
Yikes !!!

Off to the boat as fast as I can. I don't think that
scaly creature can catch up with me.
We have our life vest on - 'All aboard for Orang
Utan Island'. The staff of the Resort line the dock
to wave and wish us a fun ride to the island.
Hmmmm..... is there something they are trying to
tell us?
The ride feels cool ... a relief from the hot sun. I
see the island ahead. Very vegetated and remote.
I can also hear sounds....animal sounds.
Boat Dock
We arrive at the island and we are greeted with
a refreshing drink. We then make our way to the
Orang Utans. On this island, the Orang Utans
run free and we are the ones in the cages. We
also get to meet Harry. Harry is a 10 month old
Orang Utan who was abandoned by this
mother. Not to worry, he gets lots of love from
the staff at the sanctuary....and the visitors as
well.
Looks like the Orang Utans are all in good
hands. Time to head back to the Resort. Lunch
is served at the Resort and it comes with a
spectacular 'Bamboo Dance'. I'd like to see a
spectator go up and try that. The snapping
bamboo can make for bruised ankles
So....the time has come....and like all good
things....this adventure has come to an end.

Thank you Tourism Malaysia for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Malaysia International Media Hunt 2006. It has been a wonderful experience and I am extremely grateful. Your hospitality has been exemplary.
Thanks also go to Mr. Wan Ahmad Lotfi Dato' Paduka Wan Ibrahim, chairman of the MIMH 2006, and his crew. An amazing group of people. They did everything to make this event a success. You have my vote on that.
Thank you everyone involved for making this a memorable trip.
